A Brief History of Tennis

The Start

Tennis started in Edgbaston England dating back all the way back to the early 1500s when a king was gifted two rackets and a ball.  later being adapted to the tennis we know now in 1873. Wimbledon was created soon after in 1877. By the time the 1900s came around tennis was beginning to grow global outside of England. The International Tennis Federation was founded in 1963 finalizing tennis as a global sport.

A change in the game

Tennis, like many other sports, has evolved as time went on. Early on tennis was played at a slow pace focused on not missing. That changed in the early 1900s as players began to see that serving and volleying was a great way to force the opponent to miss. As the game grew, and rackets began to see dramatic changes in how they’re made the game shifted once more. This is how tennis is played now which is lots of fast pace hitting where both players stay back at the baseline and try to force the opponent to miss rather than focus on not missing themselves.
