College Tennis

So you want to start your college tennis career or learn about college tennis, you came to the right place! Unlike other collegiate sports, college tennis is different than regular tennis. It is a team environment which from what I have heard is a hard adjustment for some tennis players starting the college tennis journey. The thing that stands out to me is when players say something along the lines of “it’s hard to separate yourself and fully engage in team culture when playing a solo sport all my life”. This change is understandable for players who have only played and practice for their own success and not others.

The other unique aspect is the scoring of college Tennis. In college tennis winning one match doesn’t matter. What matters is how many matches your team wins. Each team plays 3 doubles matches and 6 singles matches. If you win doubles 2-1 or 3-0 your team gets 1 point. Now each singles match is worth 1 point so whichever team wins 4 points first wins the entire match. The other unique part is the game scoring. In college tennis if you get to a deuce point there is no advantage if someone wins the next point.

Overall, college tennis is almost a whole different sport than regular tennis.
